Custom EZ Stride

Introduction

The "EZ Stride" ankle foot orthosis was designed to help restore and facilitate gait and the biomechanics of the patient who has foot drop. The orthotic stores and releases energy that is needed by the patient to achieve normal gait. The orthotic will prevent premature foot drop, provide stability at mid stance, and help propel the patient at toe off.

A skilled, properly trained orthotist is required to assess the patients unique biomechanical defencies, determine the proper orthotic needs, and to properly customize the orthotic to maximize both the overall fit and function. This process is outlined in detail later in this manual and includes:

Pre-fitting gait analysis
Modifying the ''EZ Stride'' to properly fit the patients shoe
Customize the ''EZ Stride'' to maximize patient appearance and comfort
Educate the patient on the do's and don'ts to maximize patient compliance
Post fitting gait assessment

The "EZ Stride" is a custom device. After determining that the "EZ Stride" is the best orthotic for the patient, the trained orthotist will complete an orthometry form (see appendix) which includes a detailing of the patients lower leg and foot measurements, shoe size, and orientation (left or right). This information will be used by Spinal Solutions to properly fabricate the orthotic.

EZ Stride Fitting Goals

The "EZ Stride" is a custom to measure orthosis. The "EZ Stride" is an unfinished device that must be customized by the trained orthotist to properly fit and function for the patient. Patient measurements and shoe size are called in and a custom device is fabricated for the patient. The overall objective of the orthotist is to achieve a more normal gait for the patient while providing a fit that will increase comfort and appearance.

Product Benefits / Enhancements

Lateral support strut prevents inversion and supination
Extra relief at the lateral malleolus helps orthotic fit a wider range of patients
Low profile, spiral design, enhances esthetics and increases overall patient comfort
Open heel design eliminates pressure sores in that area
Overall comfort enhanced and heat buildup is reduced by designing the orthotic to only contact the patient at the calf band and footplate.
